comparative dissertations

As the new year starts, and the job applications slow down a bit, I am moving back into having a focus on writing the dissertation, producing new pages of writing and not just revising. It’s getting close to being a whole object, which feels good.  I printed it out for one postdoc application and that was great.  But it can be hard to keep the large scale view when you’re coming to the end and swamped with details. It can even be hard to remember what the large scale view is, how large? I’ve picked out a dissertation from quite a few years ago, that makes a somewhat similar argument and I think I will use that as a gage of how abstract and large scaled my analysis should be. I mean, one does want to conclude something of relevance to the whole field.
